Student Michigan Education Association/ Student Council for Exceptional Children: President
Founder/Director

Northern Colleagues is a free tutoring program that I founded at NMU. As the director of that program I work to pair NMU pre-service teachers with students in need throughout the community. Currently the program is partnered with two high schools, a middle school, two elementary schoools, and the adult education center in Marquette Michigan.

I taught an Introduction to Art Journaling Class titled, "Soul Scribbles," for the Young Wildcat Scholars Program at NMU. More than 225 very diverse sixth-grade students from six charter schools across Michigan

participated in the program . My lesson integrated technology, art, writing, and music. I also organized a donation drive to acquire materials prior to the lesson. Each student was able to take home their own art journal.

I presented an activity-based science lesson titled, "Detective Science" during the Weekend College for Kids program at NMU. This involved collaboration between my methods instructor and the Seaborg Center staff at NMU.

Community Involvement

College Positive Volunteer

College positive volunteers are support people who are able to help k-12 students prepare for postsecondary education. I helped to direct mock interviews for the 6th grade life skills class I taught during student teaching.

Community involvement is very important to me personally. I believe that my purpose is to do all that I can to help improve the world in which we live and the lives of others. This is a virtue that I hope to instill in my students as well. During my student teaching experience I was involved in the school community by volunteering twice a week at the after school homework club. This involved working with students on homework, test preparation, organization skills and reporting back to staff on attendance of students. I also attended basketball games and helped by supervising students who were working the concession stands.

As the president of SMEA/SCEC I organized community-wide charity events and fundraisers with NMU education students and students from local schools such as Backpacks for Students in Need, Trick or Treat so Others Can Eat, and The Winter Teddy Bear Drive. I also planned, lead, and documented meetings  and  invited one speaker a month to present on an important topic in education.
