Parent Communication

I belive that, at every age, parent involvement is very important to a child's education. I make every possible effort to include families and parents in the classroom and to keep the lines of communication open. I also make sure to document appropriately when parents are contacted.

Student Communication

One of the most imporant aspects of teaching is the student-teacher relationship. I use both contingent and non-contingent forms of communication with my students. At the beginning of each day I write the supplies they need to bring to class on a white board outside the room and I also display it on a document camera. Each day the agenda is also displayed in the room. I have a bulletin board behind my desk where I post messages to the class. Students also know that they can write me private or public notes and post them there for me to read. I use small gold cards to thank students for good citizenship, such as hard work or helping others. I also make sure to  write both positive and helpful notes as feedback on assignments.

Colleague Communication

By working on a two-teacher team I was fortunate enough to be able to learn a lot about communication with other colleagues. I participated in all staff meetings, grade level and team meetings, and department meetings as well.

Below is a link to a blog documenting my experience as a student teacher, which was made available to parents and staff.
